House Passes Minimum Wage Increase

House passes Minimum Wage increase, Would rise to $7.25 an hour in the next 26 months.

The Democratic controlled Congress passed a bill to increase minimum wage. The bill will go to the Senate then to the President who is expected to sign it into law. The bill should be paired with targeted tax and regulatory relief to help the business offset the cost of paying the employee more.

ABC News reports.

TAKING DAY OFF FOR FOOTBALL COSTS DEMS CREDIBILITY

Have the Democrats lost credibility after their promise of a 5 day work week for not being in session for the Ohio State-Florida State game on Monday? That will be a matter up to the voters. Mind you, I am not saying the Republican Congress was any better with their limited work week. I'll work 3 days a week for $162,500 a year! Where do I sign up? Anyhow, The Drudge Report had a great article by Dick Morris. The article can be found here.

House rules change clears way for tax increases

Taxes could be raised between now and the 2008 elections. A straight party-line vote by the Democrats has just changed one of the key procedural votes: a legislative rule making it easier to raise taxes by a simple majority vote (218 votes), rather than the supermajority or three-fifths vote created by the Republicans 1994 Contract with America. Some Democrats who were against it were strong armed into voting for it, even though they promised back home that they would not raise taxes! My favorite part? The Democrats also approved the so-called "pay-as-you-go" rule as part of the House rules package. The rule says that when taxes are cut, lawmakers must offset any revenue loss with either new or higher taxes elsewhere, or reductions in spending.

How about we just reduce our spending, folks? The full article by The Washington Post can be found here.
